The focus for ESL standards is to communicate! There are 4 language domains in which students can communicate:
speaking, reading, writing and listening
Teaching to all these domains in the everyday classroom with help language learners bridge gaps between their communicative strenghths and weaknesses. Use peer groups, writing and verbal cues/prompts, routines in speech, and simplified directions to accommodate for language learners.
- English language learners communicate for Social and Instructional purposes within the school setting.
- English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Language Arts.
- English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Mathematics.
- English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Science.
- English language learners communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Social Studies.
